Final drive service - 2007
« on: April 26, 2021, 10:47:59 AM »
75W140 recommended @ 180 ml
Tutorial with pictures by Jim von Baden.
I have a late 2006 model according to the VIN so the process was different ie easier. It was not necessary to disconnect the drive shaft as the drain plug was at the bottom.
It also wasnt necessary to remove the caliper.
The filler was also a seperate allen key at the 11 oíclock position and not as depicted here.
All in all a very simple job.

found the following information after buying the NTN 6917 BIG bearing (R690) instead of the FAG 61917 /C3 bearing at BMW for R1 961
everone say you need the C3 spec, and only available from BMW

this is what i found on the NTN documentation
Radial internal clearance
Radial internal clearance are the same as those
for standard deep groove ball bearings. With
standard fit and application conditions, a C3
clearance is used. For more detailed information
concerning this bearing and the availability of
roller bearings contact NTN Engineering.
